Although most semi-precious stones are durable and harder than glass, any stone with a hardness less than 8 on the Moh's scale
should be handled carefully to extend it's beauty. This is usually any stone that is not a diamond or corundum (sapphire,
ruby). Pearls especially need careful handling.
After wearing your jewelry you should wipe it with a soft, clean, damp cloth and store it in an airtight container away
from sunlight to prevent tarnish or discoloration. A polishing cloth is excellent for cleaning sterling silver that has tarnished.
